Ottoman Empire


The Ottoman Empire was a state that lasted from 1299 to 1922, which began as a small Turkic state in Anatolia and grew to become one of the largest and most powerful empires in history. It was centered in what is now Turkey and ruled over much of Southeast Europe, Western Asia, and North Africa at its height. The empire was characterized by its Islamic faith, large military, and centralized government. The empire declined in the 19th and early 20th centuries and was eventually dissolved after World War I, leading to the establishment of the modern state of Turkey.
